I want King Co. to improve regional transit system. With gas going over $4.00/gallon and parking going through the roof in seattle (all the more reason to stay home) we need reliable rapid transit.
Yes, I too think public transportation is good for our community. We need to come up with a reliable source of funding ( I personally think a progressive tax system is needed state wide in order to have a fully functional government. But I digress. ) in order to improve and expand. Especially light rail. I also think higher parking rates downtown is a good thing. In brings in needed revenue, and encourages people to leave our gas burners at home.
Hi Pete, No new license increases for Metro to waste running buses around with just a few passengers on board. Federal Way has been paying and we continue to pay an RTA fee we will never have available for our use. Let those who use the service, pay for it. Drivers might have to work split shifts, etc. if they want a job.
1/3 Dear Mr. von Reichbauer, I grew up in Federal Way and currently live within Seattle city limits. I choose to take public transit for both economical reasons and having time to work while traveling. My parents live in FW still and I try to visit frequently (and shop while I'm there as I know they need my consumer dollars).
2/3 However most buses in and out of the city as well as local transit buses are on the chopping block, not just for reduction but complete loss of service and that would reduce access to the city and surrounding area. I know this area has so much potential, but the people are very poor and need transit access. More than any other city in South King County Federal Way is where people move to if they're going to need bus access to get to work.
3/3 I've met you so many times over the years, in interning and volunteering capacities around the city, and I know you want to do good things for people. Please help to save Metro services for your constituents and those who visit them by bus. The transit center (and city) already has a high crime rate and leaving people to wait longer for reduced service will not help. Being far-South King's Representative on the council gives you a very important responsibility to the people of your district. Please take this into consideration as what may become the final breaking point for the city: To finally flourish, as we've all been pushing for, or just to become the suburban wasteland dour outsiders have saying we are doomed to forever stay. P.S. The 901 which would be cut entirely is the bus which services the FW B&GC. Think of the children.
Stand firm, do not vote yes for a $20 car tab fee. Let the voters decide but it will go down in flames, wasting $1M for the priviledge of putting it on the ballot. What a waste. A tax on cars to subsidize bus service is unacceptable. Eliminating most routes is unacceptable. The choices given are unacceptable to all.
